Anglican churches in Exeter city centre

Giving breathing space in the heart of the city

Five medieval churches, open through the week for worship, quiet and welcome. This parish believes in an all-inclusive church, where all are welcomed.

Open daily. St Stephen’s, St Pancras’, St Petrock’s, St Olave’s and St Martin’s are open to the public between 10am and 4pm.

Worship

Services across the parish

We draw on both traditional and contemporary strands — the 1662 Book of Common Prayer at St Pancras, Common Worship at St Olave’s and St Stephen’s, and the informal Crossing Place once a month.

Visiting

Our six churches

All date from medieval times, and all stand within a few minutes’ walk of one another in the centre of Exeter. Visitors are always welcome.

An open, welcoming Christian community exploring the meaning of faith today — where the gospel of love, forgiveness and compassion overrides all else, and where doubts as well as faith can be explored.

Our commitments

Being part of God’s mission of love and reconciliation

In and through Jesus Christ, we are committed to three things above all.

Giving breathing space

  • An open, inclusive and non-judgemental environment
  • A range of innovative opportunities, within the Anglican tradition, for individual and collective worship and prayer
  • Creative ways for personal and spiritual growth

Living the values

  • Supporting ourselves and others through prayer and action
  • Responding to the challenge of climate change by reflecting and acting on our decision-making and behaviour
  • Informing others about our faith and welcoming them to share our fellowship

Engaging with the city

  • Using our resources to benefit the communal and Christian life of the city
  • Working with other agencies and churches
  • Making innovative use of our historical buildings

Seeking silence?

Meditation at St Pancras’

Join us for meditation within the prayerful walls of St Pancras’ church on the first Wednesday of every month, from 5.15pm to 6pm. Please note we do not meet in August.

Dawn leads us into silence by reading from an inspirational passage, followed by a short practice of mindful breathing to calm our bodies and thoughts. During the silence we meditate according to our own practice — following the breath, or repeating a mantra. The silence is space away from a busy world and a busy mind; time to reflect and be still.
